What Exactly is MMA Weight Training?
Bodybuilding and powerlifting are very different than MMA weight training. First, because MMA requires many hours of training, a mixed-martial artist can only dedicate at most 3 days per week to weight training. Because of this, the program is very different than that for bodybuilders and powerlifters. The full body must be worked each workout, with the focus on compound movements such as squats, deadlifts, lunges, presses, and chinups, to name a few. Plus, the workouts must be planned so that the fighters strength peaks and tapers for the fight. Weight training is an important aspect of MMA conditioning, and should be prioritized just like boxing or grappling.
